Webb Launches New Division
2nd November 2009
Webb Launches New Division
Webb Industries, leading suppliers of ancillary products and solutions for telecommunications infrastructure, has launched a new division which will provide
indoor coverage solutions.
“Providing signal to areas where radio shadow occurs has become one of Webb’s important offerings and we decided that a focused, independent internal entity was the best way to maximise our customer service,” says Webb MD Paul Richards.
Richards adds that Webb has recently concluded a distribution agreement with wireless solutions provider Comba Telecom Systems (Comba) whose repeaters will form the backbone of the new division.
Established in 1997 and listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 2003, Comba is one of the leading providers of wireless solutions in the world and is ranked the number one in Asia with over 25% market share in China.
“They provide a very comprehensive, high quality range of UMTS (universal mobile telecommunications system) in-building solutions, which are an excellent fit in the Webb stable,” says Richards.
Meanwhile one of Webb’s high profile contracts, which will be managed by the new division, is the supply of UMTS and GSM Dual Band repeaters to MTN South Africa.
The contract involves the supply and installation of UMTS and GSM Dual Band repeaters for in-building solutions and will go a long way in showing the market the power of Comba UMTS products. "This is an important contract with respect to UMTS' growing popularity here and paves the way for accelerated growth of the product in this region," says Webb's Alan Chater. Chater says that UMTS is the natural evolutionary choice for operators of GSM networks, which currently represent a customer base of more than 850 million end-users in 195 countries and over 70% of today's digital wireless market. He adds that when using UMTS networks, high quality coverage is a prerequisite as they operate in a relatively high frequency range where there is higher attenuation than in regular GSM. "Basically this means there is a need for significantly better penetration in buildings and other shielded areas, which is exactly what we achieve with the Comba product. Richards, emphasises that Webb is a serious player in the provision of 'in-building' coverage and cell enhancer solutions. "Securing the Comba agency gives us access to unique products and solutions for Africa's GSM network operators," he concludes. The COMBA SP-2110 UMTS Pico repeater View All Articles...
