Telegärtner premieres Cat. 8.1
Telegärtner unveiled their Cat. 8.1 products at Light + Building in Steinenbronn during February 2018. They introduced a new RJ45 keystone jack and an RJ45 field-assembly cable plug. The manufacturer is ultimately presenting new products for installations following ISO/IEC 11801 Class I in preparation for forthcoming applications to cover up to 40GBASE-T.
‘The trend towards higher transmission rates is constantly growing due to, among other things, more and more smart mobile end devices becoming widespread,’ stressed Marcel Leonhard, head of product management for Data Infrastructure Copper Solutions at Telegärtner Karl Gärtner GmbH. At Light + Building 2018, the company unveiled its Permanent Link and Channel Class I solutions acc. to ISO/IEC 11801. They include a newly developed slim and short RJ45 keystone jack for field assembly and the AMJ module Cat. 8.1 T568A/B in accordance with the IEC 60603-7 series (RJ45, 8P8C), as well as the cable plug MFP8 Cat. 8.1 for field assembly.
First products with Cat. 8.1 technology
The new AMJ Modul Cat.8.1 RJ45 keystone jack features a robust zinc die-cast housing, and 360° shielding enables secure data transmission regardless of external electrical noise. The slim and compact design with keystone panel cutout facilitates installation in diverse applications and housings. IDC insulation contacts for solid wire 0.51 – 0.64 mm (AWG24-22)*1 provide for a secure connection. This can be accomplished in the field without any special tools. A finely graduated strain relief and shield connection enable adaptation to outer cable diameters of six to ten millimetres. The quick equipotential connection can be achieved using flat connectors 2.8mm with pre-assembled cables. An integrated dust cover is included.
The MFP8 Cat. 8.1 cable plug has a durable zinc die-cast housing and a cable gland suitable for cable diameters of 5.5-10.0 mm. It is compatible with installation cables and patch cables of category (Cat.) 8.1 / Cat. 8.2 with copper conductor cross sections 0.36 mm (AWG27)*7 – 0.64 mm (AWG22)*7 or 0.40 mm (AWG26)*1 – 0.64 mm (AWG22)*1 enabling direct-attach connections in-between electronic devices transferring 10/25 or even 40GBASE-T. Assembly is child´s play and can be done in the field without special tools. Patch cords can be custom-made in the same way.
Shorter latency necessitates higher data rates.
With both of Telegärtner’s newly developed connection components, users can realise installations per ISO/IEC 11801 Class I and prepare the networks for the future applications of 25GBase-T and 40GBase-T. Development of the backbone networks and decentralised data centres is urgently needed since, in many cases, data rates of 10 Gbit/s of the Ethernet variant 10GBase-T are no longer sufficient. Applications such as in transport infrastructure and for traffic require considerably shorter latencies.
